🧠KAIST Launches the 'Mind Care & Growth Center' (KMCG) — A New Era of Multidisciplinary Mental Health Support I am thrilled to share the official launch of the KAIST Mind Care & Growth Center (KMCG), a pioneering integrated platform designed to strengthen mental health support for students and faculty while driving cutting-edge digital mental health research. To celebrate this milestone, KAIST hosted an international symposium on "Human Behavior and Mental Health" today, bringing together over 300 global experts, researchers, and students. Here are the key highlights from this landmark initiative: 🔹 A Unified Hub for Care & Research KMCG consolidates previously scattered campus counseling and psychiatric services into a seamless, single-entry system. Moving beyond traditional counseling, it functions as a "living laboratory" where experts from AI, brain science, industrial design, and computer science collaborate to develop evidence-based digital interventions. 🔹 Global Collaboration with UCSF Neuroscape The symposium featured a keynote by Professor Adam Gazzaley (Founder of UCSF Neuroscape & co-founder of Akili Interactive), who showcased breakthroughs in VR-based cognitive training and multimodal biosensing. Moving forward, KAIST aims to benchmark this interdisciplinary model to build a robust global mental health innovation ecosystem. 🔹 New Insight: Generative AI as a "Clinically Ambivalent Technology" Alongside the launch, KMCG Director Dooyoung Jung and his team published a timely study in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR). Based on the insights of 311 Korean psychiatrists, the study highlights that while Generative AI can significantly enhance self-care and treatment access, it also poses risks like overdependence and distorted belief reinforcement. The team emphasizes that AI must remain a tool to assist—not replace—human therapists. As KAIST President Kwang Hyung Lee wisely noted: "Technology must remain a tool guided by human wisdom and philosophy — not the other way around." In an era where AI transforms high-level intellectual labor, prioritizing human-centered values and mental well-being has never been more critical. Excited to see how KMCG will shape the future of digital health and university wellness across Korea and beyond! 🚀 📌 Read the full research paper here: https://lnkd.in/g26f-7Jh #KAIST #DigitalHealth #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #GenerativeAI #Neuroscience #Innovation #HigherEducation #UCSF #Research Impact
