During his recent visit, Tim Raue got an insight into the handmade production of our joint series Kolibri. And with it, an impression of the dedication, precision and passion with which our handcrafting team works on every single glass. What truly fascinated Tim was the intricate teamwork and precision required to make each Kolibri glass. It takes five skilled artisansโ€”each with a unique roleโ€”to create a single glass: โ–ช๏ธThe bulb maker ('Kรถlblmacher') gathers molten glass from the furnace and blows the first small sphere, the bulb. โ–ช๏ธThe blower ('Einblรคser') takes this bulb, gathers more glass from the furnaceโ€”using only experience and intuition to judge the right amountโ€”pre-shapes it with a block, and then carefully blows the hot glass into a wooden mould to form the bowl. โ–ช๏ธThe gatherer ('Keier') brings additional glass from the furnace to the gaffer for the stem and later for the base. โ–ช๏ธThe gaffer (master glassmaker) draws out the stem from the blown bowl and shapes the base with greatest sensitivity, using a paddle for the final form. โ–ช๏ธFinally, the carrier ('Eintrรคger') detaches the finished glass and takes it to the oven to cool down. This process is a true team effort. Every step is precisely coordinated and relies on years of experience and skill. โ€œWatching the glassmakers at work was truly impressive. Every movement is precise, every tool has its purposeโ€”you can see the expertise and dedication in every Kolibri glass,โ€ Tim shared. ๐Ÿท ๐’๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐†๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐‚๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐“๐จ๐ ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ As Tim explains, โ€œZwiesel Glas has many wonderful series that Marie-Anne Wild and I have been using for over two decades. With the glasses we have now developed together, we deliberately wanted to create special glass shapes.โ€ The Kolibri series is the resultโ€”unique glassware born from over 26 years of collaboration, craftsmanship, and a shared passion for innovation.
