When homes are sold privately, the harm doesn't fall equally. Sellers in communities of color lost 1.9% on average from private listings. In majority white neighborhoods, that figure was 1.1%. Across three years and millions of transactions, that gap is consistent. Some brokerages are trying to expand the private listing model. That scales up the harm, too. A system built around exclusivity doesn't become more equitable as it grows. The question isn't whether this is harmful. The question is how much damage gets done before it stops.
