We were pleased to take part in the EURACTIV Health Policy Conference in Brussels yesterday. Thank you to Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi who reminded us that Europe’s healthcare model is a real asset and must be safeguarded. Our CEO Steffen Saltofte joined a panel discussion on health security: the value of the pharmaceutical industry and resilient manufacturing is increasingly recognised as essential for Europe’s healthcare systems. Initiatives on health security and critical medicines are moving in the right direction. 💬 As Steffen underlined during the discussion, at the same time, we must ensure that new challenges are workable and do not unintentionally jeopardise access to affordable medicines for patients across Europe. This is especially relevant as environmental legislation such as the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) moves forward. Clean water is essential, but implementation must be workable. We need to pause the implementation (‘stop the clock’) of the directive in its current form and repair it at EU level before irreversible damage is done - to ensure environmental objectives are met without risking access to affordable medicines.
