π Weβre so excited to announce the start of I2Loc - AI-based AR Indoor Navigation for Subway Stations π A ZIM-funded research project coordinated by ZAUBAR in cooperation with Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI and supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWK) π π This idea grew from early work and experimentation around AR wayfinding in Hamburg. The short Hamburger Hochbahn AG video below shows the seed moment and the first public exploration of the concept, the spark that later turned into a formal research plan! π±π I2Loc now focuses on developing a novel image-based indoor localization approach integrated into an AR app for iOS and Android. By overlaying clear visual guidance (directional arrows, markers, etc.) onto the live camera view, the project aims to deliver much higher positioning accuracy than GPS in complex stations: improving passenger safety, reducing navigation errors, and producing high-quality 3D station datasets that can enable new commercial XR services. We were so glad to launch it at XR INTERACTION and look forward to building this next-generation AR navigation system together with Fraunhofer HHI and our XR partners πͺβ¨ Anne-Sophie Panzer, Stefan Marx, Peter Eisert, Dr. Frank Dittrich, Anna Hilsmann, Dr. Susann Zeiner-Fink, Eckhart Wittstock #I2Loc #XR #AR #AI #IndoorNavigation #ComputerVision #Innovation #ZIM #BMWK #XRInteraction
