Having worked across multiple international and emerging markets, one lesson stands out above all others: Technical sales skills can be developed. Character traits are far more difficult to teach. When hiring and building high-performing sales teams, I am less concerned about who delivers the most polished pitch and more interested in how they approach people, challenges, and uncertainty. The professionals who consistently succeed in complex and relationship-driven markets are those who: • Stay genuinely curious about their customers' businesses • Adapt their approach rather than forcing a script • Listen more than they speak • Remain resilient after setbacks and use every lost opportunity as a learning experience In many emerging markets, trust is the real currency. Strong relationships are built through credibility, patience, and understanding, not through aggressive sales tactics. When evaluating talent, I look for three qualities above all else: ✓ Ambition and drive ✓ Adaptability in changing environments ✓ Emotional intelligence and active listening Sales methodologies, product knowledge, and negotiation techniques can all be taught. A growth mindset, humility, and the ability to build trust are what separate good salespeople from exceptional ones. The best sales professionals do not just close deals. They create long-term partnerships that drive sustainable business growth. #SalesLeadership #B2BSales #BusinessDevelopment #SalesStrategy #Leadership #EmergingMarkets #InternationalBusiness #RevenueGrowth #CustomerSuccess #AccountManagement #SalesManagement #CommercialExcellence #GrowthMindset #LeadershipDevelopment #TrustBasedSelling #EnterpriseSales #GoToMarket #ProfessionalDevelopment #LinkedInBusiness #BusinessGrowth #Europe #USA #EMEA #UAE #Finland #Germany #Nordics #Canada #Australia #MENA
