Sustainability Update☘️🌍 I’m thrilled to share some recent developments following our article in the The Royal College of Surgeons of England Trainees Bulletin on grassroots approaches to carbon footprinting. I have had the honour of presenting our sustainability projects at several prestigious national and international conferences. 1. Mediterranean Conference of Plastic Surgery Innovations: An international poster presentation on "Sustainability in Reconstructive Breast Surgery: An Eco-Audit of the Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) Flap Pathway." 2. Association of Surgeons in Training Innovation Summit 2024: Here, I delivered an oral presentation focusing on sustainability within the breast implant pathway. 3. BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) Congress 2024: Finally, an oral international presentation this month on sustainability in autologous microtia surgery, which highlighted the environmental impacts of this highly specialised quaternary plastic surgery procedure. Each of these pathways has unique environmental impacts that are yet to be fully evaluated. Our team is dedicated to identifying carbon hotspots and making personalised recommendations for each pathway. I am excited about the potential of this work and how it can contribute to a greener future for healthcare.
