…the story continues… 01.04.1902-01.04.2022 | 120 YEARS ZAHORANSKY ANNIVERSARY Today, ZAHORANSKY is known as a family business whose products are in demand worldwide, but how did it come to be founded? After his marriage to Frieda Zahoransky in 1901, Anton Zahoransky quit his good position as plant manager at the Faller brush factory in 1902. With the step into self-employment, a new phase of life began for Frieda and Anton. He set up a workshop in the house of his parents in law and manufactured simple brush-making equipment such as bench shears, stick shears and bundle dividers. On April 01, 1902, the company Anton Zahoransky, Machine Factory for the Brush Industry, Todtnau (Baden) was founded. Shortly afterwards, with the financial support of his parents-in-law and friends, he bought a house with land in Todtnau, which he converted into a new home and workshop. He also received permission to train apprentices. Until the First World War, he took on an average of two apprentices per year. The good training of the apprentices still distinguishes ZAHORANSKY today. As early as September 1902, the new company was able to deliver a new type of brush making machine, which was designed and built in a very short time. Thus, it made the leap to becoming a manufacturer of machines and successfully set itself apart from the numerous competitors of mechanic workshops. An important feature on this machine was his first invention, namely round wire loops that were crossed as they passed through the jaws of the tufting tool, thus achieving significantly greater extraction forces. At the same time, this was probably his biggest mistake, as he failed to patent this crossed loop at the time. To this day, the entire brush industry uses this type of staple. The internationalization of the business also began quickly, namely as early as 1904 machines were exported to Valencia (Spain) and to Canada and ZAHORANSKY participated in trade fairs in Dresden and Paris. The good order situation quickly made it necessary to expand the factory in 1905 and 1908. Unfortunately, the Zahoransky family then suffered a heavy blow in 1914, as wife Frieda, mother of six sons by now, died. Anton Zahoransky thus lost an important pillar of support. He found comfort and support with the Wilhelm Haas family, whose two daughters, Luise and Wilhelmine, had already supported Frieda with the children in the past. Anton asked Wilhelmine to run the household after Frieda's death. Later, the two married and eventually had a son and a daughter. From then on, Wilhelmine kept the family together and actively supported Anton in the business. To this day, the ZAHORANSKY Group has developed into a globally active technology group and has remained a family business (100% owned by the family) even after 120 years. #perfectlydifferent #blackforestquality #brushmakingmachines #brushproduction
