Hermès opens its new New Bond Street store this week, and it looks extraordinary. Six Grade II-listed buildings, combined. A Norman Foster staircase, raised by two floors to connect them all. Sixty years after Hermès first arrived in London, this is by far its most ambitious statement in the city. The scale alone is remarkable. But what really stands out is the patience behind it. Most luxury brands renovate. Hermès rebuilt the architecture of an entire block around its own identity, then brought in one of the world's most respected architects to make it all feel inevitable. Axel Dumas, the CEO, and Pierre-Alexis Dumas, the artistic director, gave the first look ahead of opening. Cousins, walking the space together. Leading the business and the creative direction side by side. This is what happens when a brand takes its time. Excited to see it in person once the doors open. Anyone planning to visit once it's open?
