Last Tuesday, YEC hosted a private dinner with José Luis López Fernández, better known as “El Turronero”, one of Spain’s most singular entrepreneurs and relationship-builders. Founder of Grupo Lomar, José Luis has built, from the ground up, a diversified business group with interests across real estate, finance, insurance, hospitality, energy, health, retail, and entertainment. But beyond the scale of his projects, what stood out most during the evening was not only his business trajectory, but the values behind it. Over an intimate and inspiring dinner, we explored entrepreneurship, long-term relationships, trust, ambition, and the importance of staying true to one’s word. José Luis shared anecdotes, lessons, and reflections from a lifetime of building businesses, creating opportunities, and earning trust across some of Spain’s most influential circles. A few ideas that stayed with us: • Trust is built through consistency. In business and in life, reputation depends on doing what you say you will do. • Relationships are not transactions. The strongest networks are built over time, through generosity, loyalty, and mutual respect. • Giving back is part of building something meaningful. True success is not only measured by what you create, but also by what you contribute to others. What made the evening especially memorable was José Luis’ openness in sharing the challenges, turning points, and lessons that shaped his journey, a powerful reminder that great stories are often built through perseverance, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to move forward. Thank you, José Luis, for your generosity, authenticity, and time.
