Online upskilling platform upGrad is set to acquire Unacademy in an all‑stock deal valuing the edtech startup at about ₹2,055 crore ($218 million), more than 90% below its $3.4 billion peak in 2021, as reported by ET. The transaction could give UpGrad up to ₹900–950 crore in cash from Unacademy’s balance sheet, pending Competition Commission of India (CCI) approval. Founder Ronnie Screwvala and Gaurav Munjal signed a 100% share‑swap term sheet in March 2026, after earlier talks stalled over valuation. UpGrad also plans to raise around ₹375 crore from Temasek and Screwvala, pushing its cash position above ₹1,300 crore post‑deal. The combined company aims to grow its B2B and enterprise business, strengthen AI‑driven learning, and expand global talent and study‑abroad services as India’s edtech sector consolidates in the wake of the post‑pandemic slowdown and Byju’s collapse. #UpGrad #Unacademy #EdtechIndia #MandA #EdtechConsolidation #StartupIndia
