🎉 Delighted to share our new publication in Economic Modelling! After a long and rewarding research journey, I am pleased to share our latest paper: Transport Poverty, Inequality and Absolute Poverty: Testing a Transport Kuznets Curve in a Dynamic Panel Framework This paper investigates an important but often overlooked question: Can transport poverty become a structural driver of absolute poverty? To answer this question, we introduce the Transport Poverty–Growth–Inequality (TPGI) framework and provide one of the first empirical tests of a Transport Kuznets Curve (TKC), showing that transport development initially increases transport inequality but, beyond a critical threshold, begins to reduce it. Using regional, provincial, and municipal data from Italy, our findings highlight that: • Transport poverty is a significant determinant of absolute poverty. • Transport development and transport equity policies should be pursued together. • The effectiveness of transport policies depends on the stage of regional development. I hope this work contributes to ongoing discussions on how transport systems can promote not only mobility and economic efficiency, but also social inclusion, regional cohesion, and poverty reduction. Although I left Italy about a year and a half ago, this publication brings back many wonderful memories from my postdoctoral research at the Università degli Studi di Bari. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my outstanding co-authors, Professor Angela Stefania Bergantino and Mario Intini, for their guidance, collaboration, and friendship throughout this project. My heartfelt thanks also go to all my colleagues at the Laboratory of Applied Economics (LEA), whose stimulating research environment, generous discussions, and supportive spirit made this work possible. Finally, I will always remember the warmth, kindness, and hospitality of the wonderful people of #Bari. My time there was not only an important stage in my academic journey but also a truly unforgettable life experience. Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey. The paper is now available in Economic Modelling. https://lnkd.in/dSZdhGrK #EconomicModelling #TransportEconomics #TransportPoverty #RegionalDevelopment #Poverty #PublicPolicy #KuznetsCurve #UniversityOfBari #Research #Collaboration #Italy
