I have witnessed many horrors and massacres in #Sudan, but the past few days—since the RSF took control of Al-Fashir—have been the worst. In #AlFashir, blood stains the soil so heavily that it can be seen from space through satellite images. RSF soldiers brag openly about stopping their head count after killing 2,000 people, saying they would “start from zero,” as if competing to break records in murder. Even before the RSF takeover, I saw a young man I knew being lynched while trying to flee Alfashir—someone who had once welcomed me into his home in 2021. Relatives of fellow activists who offered me food and protection in Al-Fashir between 2013 and 2014 are now being killed daily. The worst nightmare for my colleagues and friends is not knowing the fate of their loved ones in the city since Sunday. Everyone I speak to fears that their families are dead. They are desperately reaching out to contacts in Tawila to see if anyone has made it there, or scanning through hundreds of graphic RSF videos, trying to recognize their relatives among the victims being humiliated and killed on camera. The testimonies of survivors from the genocide in Al-Fashir are beyond horrific. Starved and skeletal, they describe witnessing their loved ones executed before their eyes, being beaten, raped, injured, and then forced to flee for their lives—running past countless bodies that lined the road. Fleeing to #Tawila may sound like a short escape, but it is not. The dirt road from Al-Fashir to Tawila takes around three hours by car. Though it’s only about 70 kilometers on the map, the road winds and twists, making it even longer. People who have been starving under siege for months are now walking this entire distance on foot. Among Sudanese people, the general sentiment is one of helplessness, despair, and anger. There is so little we can do except seek solidarity from the rest of the world—a world that continues to turn a blind eye to our suffering. Right now, the only things that seem possible are to pray for Sudan- for those who believe in divine power , speak about Sudan, and donate to emergency rooms and grassroots mutual aid efforts supporting the internally displaced people fleeing from Al-Fashir. #KeepEyesOnSudan
