The Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme is coming to a close, but Farming and Nature Officer Isabel, is still finding time time to carry out some meadow surveys 🌼 This meadow has benefited from green hay spreading and the addition of plug plants, and now hosts an impressive range of flowers - and, perhaps even more excitingly, grasses! Between the two meadows surveyed, there were 10 different species of grass. Each species has its own benefit, such as cock’s-foot (Dactylis glomerata), whose deep roots draw nutrients from deeper in the soil, and crested dog’s-tail (Cynosurus cristatus), which is a food plant for skipper butterflies 🦋 #YorkshireDales #Conservation #Community
