School Counselor at Clayton County Public Schools

#GSUedLead Last school year, I participated in a school counseling leadership initiative that focused on developing student leadership through peer mentoring and collaborative professional learning communities (PLCs). As part of the initiative, I facilitated a series of workshops where students were paired with other peer mentors to co-plan lessons and support each other’s mentoring growth. The activity was designed to empower students to take on leadership roles within their class and grade level. Through guided discussions and reflective journaling, students identified common challenges and explored innovative strategies for conflict resolution. The program also included ongoing check-ins to maintain momentum. The resource that was used was developed by the Clayton County Public Schools counseling department in order to deepen the discussion with peer mentors and peaceful conflict resolution. The experience highlighted the importance of collaboration in student leadership and its impact on student outcomes.
