“Everything is about me.” - That's what Indian cricket conversations are starting to sound like right now. And honestly, that’s the worst thing a coach can do. A coach’s real role is not to dominate the narrative. Not to constantly remind the world what I did, how I played, what worked for me. The role of a coach is to be almost invisible. To quietly create the conditions where players become the center of attention. To help them think clearly. To empower them to own their decisions. To support their journey, not overshadow it with your legacy. Great coaching is not about giving answers. It’s about asking better questions. Not telling people what worked for you, but helping them discover what will work for them. A coach is not a loudspeaker. A coach is a mirror. A mirror that reflects strengths, blind spots, fears, and possibilities - without ego, without noise. Because the moment the coach becomes bigger than the team, the growth of the team quietly stops. The post isn’t just about cricket. So here’s the real question for every leader and coach reading this: Are you building your people…or building your image through them?
