Day 2 – The Compliment That Wasn’t I’ve talked about body shaming for years. I’ve built conversations around it. I’ve taught younger people how to protect their confidence from it. I founded a movement — No To Body Shaming (NTBS) — to challenge it going for the past 4 years. So I thought, surely, at this point in my life, words wouldn’t get to me anymore. But recently… they did. I went salsa dancing — something I do often. I felt good. I looked great. I was in my zone. Then a guy asked me to dance. His partner was sitting nearby, which is normal in social dancing. We danced. Smiled. Small talk. All good. Until he leaned in and said: 👉🏽 “Do you know your head is the most beautiful thing about you?” I laughed awkwardly. Brushed it off. But when I got home, that comment followed me. It sounded like a compliment. But it landed like an insult. Because when you look at a full person — head, body, soul, confidence — and pick just one part to praise… it says a lot. It reduces. It stings. I stayed quiet in that moment. And that silence made it hurt more. This is the part of body shaming people don’t talk about enough: ➡️ The part that wears perfume. ➡️ That dresses like “innocent compliments.” ➡️ That’s subtle… but sharp. I’ve heard people say worse. "You’re getting fat." "You used to be slimmer." But this one stuck. Not because it was loud, but because it was masked. And this is exactly why I’m doing the #30DaysNoToBodyShaming Challenge this July. Because body shaming is not just the obvious insults — it’s the sneaky, disguised ones too. And no one deserves to shrink because of someone else’s careless words. If you’ve ever experienced something like this — I see you. You’re not alone. And your body is not up for debate. Let’s talk. Let’s heal. Let’s change the narrative. 👇🏽 💬 Have you ever received a “compliment” that didn’t feel kind? 📢 Use the hashtag #MyBodyMyPride to join this month’s challenge. #NoToBodyShaming #NTBSChallenge #WilldivahVoice #SmartphoneEditingCoach #VideoCreator #LinkedInCreators #BodyConfidence
