Women make up just 4% of on-site construction roles, but Girls Garage is working to change that — one welding class, repaired floor, and future builder at a time. The Yelp Foundation grantee Girls Garage is the first nonprofit design and construction school for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 9–18. Through carpentry, welding, architecture, and activist art, they're equipping the next generation to build the world they want to see. Miriam Warren, Yelp's Chief Culture Officer and Board Chair of the Yelp Foundation, and Emily Pilloton-Lam, Founder and Executive Director of Girls Garage, are sharing why organizations like Girls Garage matter and why the construction industry's future is brighter (and stronger) when more women are part of it.
