STIP-C | Day 4 | Politics vs Policy: Train Your Eye Start Thinking in Policy Challenge | India House | 27 June 2026 This morning I read the news differently not for what happened, but for what policy sits behind it. Here are four headlines from today that are more than headlines. 1. DU CSAS Portal opens for UG Admissions 2026–27 What: Delhi University's centralised admissions portal activates today for 79 programmes across 91 colleges. Policy behind it: NEP 2020 + CUET — one national test now determines access to higher education. Who it impacts: Every school leaver in India — most severely those without coaching or reliable internet. 2. MGNREGA replaced by VB-G RAM G Act from July 1 What: India's 20-year rural employment guarantee is being restructured , days rise to 125 but the rights-based framework is quietly rewritten. Policy behind it: Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025. Who it impacts: 15+ crore rural households. 3. PM Modi's State Visit to Seychelles — Vision MAHASAGAR What: PM Modi begins a two-day state visit today as Guest of Honour at Seychelles' National Day golden jubilee. Policy behind it: India's maritime neighbourhood policy and Global South diplomacy. Who it impacts: India's strategic positioning across the Indian Ocean region. 4. Gig Workers to get Social Security — Labour Code 2020 What: Aggregators must now register gig workers within 45 days; health, maternity, and disability benefits included. Policy behind it: Social Security Code 2020 first formal protection for platform economy workers. Who it impacts: 7.7 million gig workers today; projected 23.5 million by 2030. Policy is not always loud. Train your eye the real story is almost always in the detail. #STIPChallenge #StartThinkingInPolicy #IndiaHouse #PolicyVsPolitics #NEP2020 #MGNREGA #VBGRAMG #GigEconomy #GlobalSouth #PolicyWatch #PolicyChallenge India House
