🫁 First patient receives life-saving lung transplant through Newcastle's new Organ Assessment Centre. Earlier this year, we shared the launch of NHS Blood and Transplant's new machine preservation programme, including 15 pilot Assessment and Recovery Centres (ARCs), designed to increase organ utilization by enabling more time for assessment and preservation of donated organs. One of those pilot centres, the Newcastle Organ Assessment Hub (NOAH) at Freeman Hospital, has now completed its first lung transplant using ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP). The milestone marks another important step in the programme's continued implementation. NOAH is the first centre in the UK to bring lung, liver, and kidney perfusion together under one roof, supporting the assessment and preservation of donated organs before transplantation. Improving donor organ utilization is at the core of this initiative, and at XVIVO, we are proud to contribute to this effort through machine perfusion technologies supporting both lung and kidney. šŸ’™ Congratulations to Newcastle Hospitals, NHS Blood and Transplant, and everyone involved in reaching this important milestone. šŸ‘‰ Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eyQvDvcN ___________ #XVIVO #EVLP #MachinePerfusion #OrganUtilization #LungTransplantation The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
