And the story, it told of a river that flowed... I'm happy to say that my first PhD paper is published! The Triassic Sherwood Sandstone Group is a fluvial and aeolian unit which plays a crucial role in the energy transition. This unit has previously lacked an updated, holistic depositional model, the last such study being published more than three decades ago. For the first time, we deliver a fairway-scale characterisation of the Helsby Sandstone Formation and the lower Mercia Mudstone Group. Despite the south-to-north direction of sediment routing, tributaries across the length of the system likely modified sediment composition. The Sherwood Sandstone Group may be mineralogically and sedimentologically heterogenous as a result - a key consideration for future studies.
