"Every micron matters. The slightest misalignment or an imperceptible variation in weight can destroy the illusion." That is how AKHOR maison horlogère indépendante Genève COO Riccardo Monfardino describes the engineering behind the brand's floating disc, the defining feature of its Le Temps en Équilibre collection and now the foundation of its new À Deux Mesures release. In a piece by Marine Ulrich, WorldTempus goes inside the technical architecture that makes the illusion possible: a patented mechanism attached to the movement's central axis, tolerances defined to the micron, and an AK10 calibre delivering 60 hours of power reserve while earning both COSC certification and the Geneva Seal. The new release adds a second layer to the dial, with each disc available in different colours and finishes chosen by the client. Future possibilities mentioned by Monfardino include sapphire, ceramic, enamel, a tourbillon, and, one day, a rotating suspended disc.
