At the launch of the Global Hepatitis Report at the World Hepatitis Summit 2026, Dr Catharina Boehme, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia Region, reflected on progress and gaps since the first WHO Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis. “Ten years on, the report shows us honestly what progress has delivered—and where gaps remain,” she said. Despite carrying nearly one-sixth of the global burden, the Region is advancing—through expanded immunization, increased access to testing and treatment, and integration into primary care and UHC. Countries are demonstrating what is possible, from Maldives’ triple elimination to scaled responses across Thailand, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. “These are proof that elimination is achievable when political will is sustained. But too many people remain undiagnosed, and too many communities are still being left behind.” “The evidence is clear. What is required now is delivery—elimination for everyone, everywhere, right now.” #WorldHepatitisSummit #GlobalHepatitisReport #EndHepatitis #HepatitisElimination #UniversalHealthCoverage #GlobalHealth
