“In health emergencies, speed determines impact.” At a virtual briefing for partners on the South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund (SEARHEF), Dr Catharina Boehme, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia Region, emphasized the importance of rapid, flexible financing to support countries when crises strike. SEARHEF enables immediate action during disasters and outbreaks — supporting rapid response teams, essential supplies and continuity of health services. Since 2008, the Fund has supported 50 health emergencies across the Region, demonstrating how timely catalytic funding can help stabilize situations before they escalate. Emergency funding protects hard-won health gains and prevents crises from reversing years of progress. With expanded resources and new opportunities for contributions from partners and donors, SEARHEF now aims to mobilize greater solidarity and collective action for emergency operations. Because speed saves lives, preparedness protects progress, and partnerships make resilience possible. #SEARHEF #HealthEmergencies #HealthSecurity
