🌍 Energy is the backbone of modern civilisations. Every country, region, and community interacts with and manages that critical system differently, faced with challenges and priorities specific to their geographies, resources, and socio-political context. Our World Energy Tour series will look at different parts of the global energy system, sharing insights on the real choices being made on the ground to build a future of more and better energy for all. Join us on 21 July for our first stop: South Africa. How is Africa’s second-largest economy building an energy system whilst handling severe load shedding issues and simultaneously successfully deploying solar, wind, batter, and pumped storage projects? How is the country balancing the World Energy Trilemma dimensions – energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability – with industrial competitiveness and their ambitious energy expansion plans? These questions and more will be answered in a conversation between our World Energy Laureate Andy Calitz, the Chair of our South African Member Committee (Energy Council of South Africa) James Mackay and other experts working across South Africa’s energy sectors. Our World Energy Tours are a series of member-only events addressing pressing energy issues of particular relevance to a country or region in the World Energy Community, connecting geographies to engage on and address common issues. Please contact your country’s Member Committee if you are interested in joining. #southafrica #energytransition #energyleadership #energysecurity #sustainability
