Youth in Dialogue 2026 Today, the young people participating in EURIADE 2026 visited the Ambassade du Pays de Rode in Limbourg (B). Divided into three groups of about 20 people each, they took part in three different segments of the event one after the other. Part 1: The Role of the Ambassade du Pays de Rode: Dr. Jörg Schmitz-Gielsdorf, Ambassador, introduced the presentation of the Ambassade. Prof. Dr. Lorscheider, Head of International Networking, then presented an informational film offering a diverse overview of the wide range of activities and events. Kathrin Holtermann, Chair of the Hertog-Limburg-Pad Foundation, showed a new map of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, which she developed as teaching material through her involvement in key working groups of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. Special attention was given to the city of Limbourg, which can be considered the historical capital of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. Historically, this region is rooted in the old Duchy of Limbourg, which was founded in 1020 with Limbourg as its capital. Part 2: High school teacher Peter Ramjoie guided the young people through the history of Limbourg, highlighting particularly significant sites. These included the Église Saint-Georges, which has recently been renovated and is now open to the public; thanks to Martin Jamard and Bruno Poswik of Fabrique Église, it was opened especially for the visit by “Youth in Dialogue.” He also pointed out the historic lime tree at the lower end of the historic town, where, according to legend, convicted criminals were hanged in centuries past. The thick trunk of the lime tree required no fewer than five young people, holding hands, to encircle the entire trunk. Part 3: In this section of the activities, the young people translated the text on a memorial stone at the entrance to the town. The text calls for remembrance of those who have championed human rights and the associated protection of freedom in society. In another part of this activity, they visited three historic public water pumps. The importance of water for sustaining life—in this case, for the people in the Limbourg castle fortress during sieges in past centuries—became real and tangible. To conclude, the young people enjoyed the traditional Belgian dish tartiflette at Brasserie Saint George, prepared and served by the friendly owners Pierre and Audrey. Led by Director Prof. Dr. Dr. Werner Janssen, the young people personally thanked the staff members Mr. Nikolas Wyrsch, Dr. Ansgar Lerner, Dr. Frank Greschik, First Usher of the Embassy Mariette Seegers, HLP Chairwoman Kathrin Holtermann, Prof. Dr. Schloeder, and Prof. Dr. Lorscheider. Dr. Brigitte Schoengen, the accompanying doctor for EURIADE, and Dr. Jörg Schmitz-Gielsdorf, the accompanying psychologist for EURIADE, also thanked the organizers of EURIADE.
