“𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭?” “𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧.” “𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭.” We often talk about 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨, but we rarely address its shadow: 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞. In 𝘐𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 by Laura Ash, notebooks fill rapidly while clarity quietly disappears. The notes become more valuable than the thinking itself. This pattern is sustained by three mechanisms: 1️⃣ 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Writing signals attention, seriousness, and involvement, even when understanding is weak. 2️⃣ 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠: Meetings become places to collect reusable phrases for later use. 3️⃣ 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: In environments where appearing engaged matters more than understanding, frantic note-taking becomes a form of protection. When organizations reward the 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 rather than genuine understanding, notebooks fill faster as clarity declines. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲?
