Clärenore Stinnes - The first person to circumnavigate the world in a Car Clärenore Stinnes was a #German #RaceCarDriver who, at the age of 28, became the first person to drive around the world. She was a #successful racing car driver before her #accomplishment. She had won 17 races in her first two years of racing by 1927. She always thought that #women were capable of doing the same things as men: "We're not better, but we're at least as good," she once stated in an interview. The #fearless aviator ensured that her name, and hence the #power of women, became recognized across the world. Stinnes was #inspired by Charles Lindbergh's solo Atlantic #voyage in May 1927. The German car industry financed the trip with 100,000 Reichsmarks (Adler, Bosch, and Aral). Stinnes left Frankfurt in an Adler Standard 6 vehicle (dubbed the Eagle 6) on May 25, 1927. She was accompanied by Carl-Axel Söderström, a Swedish #cinematographer, two #mechanics, an escort truck, and her dog, Lord. At the age of 26, Clärenore Stinnes embarked on her #greatest #adventure: to be the first person to circumnavigate the world in a car. Her tour in a 34.5-hp Adler Standard 6 through ice and heat, mud, and scree took 25 months. There were often no roads, maps, gas stations, or workshops. The fact that this life-threatening #expedition was completed was due in no small part to the stubbornness of a #woman for whom turning back was not an option. #ClärenoreStinnes #Women #BreakTheSilence #automotive #BreakingStereotypes #WomenSupportingWomen #WomenEmpowerment #Women #strength #explore #Bold #RaceCar #Changes #bold #freedom #support #AutomotiveHistory #WomensRights
