WCS CEO Annabelle Daniel OAM: 'I was asked by The Daily Telegraph ‘what’s changed in the two years since Molly Ticehurst’s death’? I was pleased to be able to answer with some positive news - that NSW coercive control laws had come into effect with heightened community awareness, that further law reform had been made around bail and tenancies, and that record numbers of stalking and intimidation offences had been recorded. What hasn’t changed is that most DFV services are still oversubscribed. In 2025, the numbers of women our Women's Community Shelters network couldn’t assist due to capacity grew by 52%. Almost 9 in 10 had their primary reason for seeking helping as being domestic abuse. And more than half of the almost 1700 people we supported were children. The more we raise awareness around domestic and family violence, the more women raise their hands for help, and we need significant investment from governments this budget cycle. It’s heartening to see the Forbes community with their ‘leave a light on’ initiative. Any death from domestic homicide is one too many.'
