National Reconciliation Week may be drawing to a close, but our commitment to the reconciliation journey does not end on June 3. We remain “All In” in our focus on working together to build respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Council and the wider community. Guided by our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, we are working towards a vision of a unified and equitable Wollongong. One that values the living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, understands the truth of our shared histories, and lives respectfully on this land. We aspire to be a culturally safe workplace where all staff take action to achieve meaningful reconciliation and foster genuine relationships with First Nations peoples. You can read our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan at https://lnkd.in/gMHKrbxv We all have a role to play in deepening our understanding of history, celebrating the world’s oldest continuous living cultures, and challenging ourselves to be better allies. One way to do this is through hosting the 15th Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards, coinciding with National NAIDOC Week 2026. The awards night will be held on Saturday 18 July and is delivered collaboratively by Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama and Shoalhaven councils to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across our local government areas.
