"Are there any Ralph Laurens left?" My father used to call that down the stairs - he meant the starched white shirts under his tailcoat. As a child I wondered why music needed these clothes at all. I meant to write about Claude for Legal. I ended up somewhere older and more human: the fear of being made obsolete, and the over-bright enthusiasm we wrap it in to hide it. Classical music has lived with that fear for decades. Now all of us do. A slow weekend read - with a Mendelssohn Adagio to go with it. https://lnkd.in/eJnvRyQb
