8 things I learned as an MSc student in Oxford in my 30s: 1. A morning suit is not pyjamas 2. People are not afraid to say „I don’t know”. Discussions are from the position of curiosity. Trying to impress someone with knowledge & complicated terms doesn’t fly here. 3. The ambition is palpable. I had people on the course who literally escaped an authoritarian regime on foot through the desert to ultimately get here 4. There are no „diversity admissions”. It’s obvious it’s merit-based. At the same time, there’s great diversity in opinions, cultures, values, personal stories, and points of view. Was super useful for my course, which is about tech design, implementation and adoption in healthcare. 5. The classroom finds its natural extension in the nearby pub, and you get to hang around with professors and have a pint after classes. Funny I got suspended from high school for doing almost exactly the same. 6. The department teaches you your craft. The college creates a home away from home (formals, balls, receptions, etc.) 7. The English countryside is beautiful. Nothing like the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire 8. My wife is worried that I zone out more often. I just think about the British Empire
