Did you know WMG’s first purpose-built facility was called the ‘Austin Rover Advanced Technology Centre’? In 1986, Professor Lord Bhattacharyya even dug the first turf himself to mark the start of construction - driven by his vision to create a dedicated space where academia and industry could work side by side. The facility was officially opened in 1990 by former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, marking a major milestone in WMG’s history. Four decades later, that same spirit of innovation lives on. In 2014, the ATC evolved into the Energy Innovation Centre — officially opened by former politician Rt Hon Sajid Javid — as a hub for cutting-edge battery research and collaboration, continuing our mission to bring together academia and industry. #WMG45
