How can we better translate scientific evidence into effective, preventive health action? This question was at the heart of the international conference, “Preventive Health Care: From Research to Action”, held in February 2026 at Schloss Herrenhausen in Hanover, Germany. The conference brought together experts from research, policy, and healthcare to discuss how prevention research can more effectively inform real-world practice and decision-making. The German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) and the VolkswagenStiftung have now published the conference report, which brings together key insights from this exchange. The report highlights central challenges and opportunities in strengthening the link between scientific evidence and its implementation in preventive health care systems. 👉🏼 See the Conference Report https://lnkd.in/eFAE2nMQ The discussions reflect a growing consensus among scientific and policy advisory bodies that improving population health requires action far beyond the healthcare sector. Alongside strengthening prevention services, greater attention is being paid to the social and commercial determinants of health, and to policies that help create healthier living conditions. Recent recommendations from the Sachverständigenrat Wirtschaft and the Health Financing Commission, commissioned by the Bundesministerium für Gesundheit, similarly point to the long-term health, social, and economic benefits of investing in prevention and of reducing the consumption of health-harming products, including through policy measures such as the taxation of commercial determinants of health, for example sugar, tobacco, and alcohol. 📸Wissenschaftsrat/Burkert & Pilar #PublicHealth #Prevention #HealthPolicy #PreventiveHealthCare
