I have always admired these WPA era granite bas-reliefs by sculptor, Edmond Amateis. They ornament a beautiful Art Deco post office at 9th Street between Chestnut and Market Streets in Philadelphia. The building as been decommissioned as a post office to the annoyance and inconvenience of just about everyone. It appears that there’s some kind of adaptive usage transformation in process, but I’m not clear on what kind of chicanery they’re up to. #artdeco #wpa #basreliefs #sculpture
