A Call for Predictable Wheat Policy, Scientific Storage and Value-Added Growth 🌾 The WPPS CEO’s Conclave 2026, Varanasi brought together leaders from wheat, flour milling, bakery, food processing, procurement, storage, technology, nutrition and allied sectors to deliberate on the future of India’s wheat economy. The key recommendations emerging from the Conclave underline the need for a more integrated farmer-to-consumer wheat value chain. Important policy priorities include: 🌾 Stable and predictable wheat policy 🌾 Need-based procurement while protecting farmer interests 🌾 Timely and transparent open market availability 🌾 Modern silos and scientific storage 🌾 Cleaning, grading, quality testing and post-harvest loss reduction 🌾 Wheat quality improvement for specific end uses 🌾 Support for flour milling modernisation 🌾 Responsible wheat flour fortification 🌾 Development of wheat processing and bakery clusters 🌾 National wheat market intelligence platform 🌾 Skill development for milling, bakery, storage and food processing India’s wheat production strength must now be supported by better storage, quality, processing efficiency, value addition and market stability. WPPS looks forward to continued engagement with government ministries, state governments, research institutions and industry bodies to build a stronger, modern and future-ready wheat value chain. Predictable policy, scientific storage and value-added processing can help India’s wheat sector serve farmers, industry and consumers better.
