🌾 India’s agriculture roadmap towards 2047 will place greater emphasis on crop diversification. As reported by Bizz Buzz, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is working on a long-term plan to rationalise the area under rice and wheat while expanding acreage under maize, nutritional cereals, pulses, horticulture and agroforestry. According to Dr. M. L. Jat, Director General, ICAR, the roadmap has been developed in consultation with NITI Aayogand will focus on demand-driven research, higher farm mechanisation, improved water and nutrient-use efficiency, and reduction of post-harvest losses. For India’s wheat sector, diversification must be implemented carefully and scientifically. Wheat remains central to national food security, farmer livelihoods, the milling industry and affordable nutrition for millions of consumers. The way forward should therefore ensure: • Higher wheat productivity from existing acreage • Climate-resilient and resource-efficient varieties • Better storage and lower post-harvest losses • Fair returns and stable markets for farmers • A balanced approach to diversification and food security Crop diversification is important, but it must strengthen—not weaken—India’s wheat value chain. We thank Bizz Buzz for highlighting this significant policy development. #WPPS #Wheat #IndianAgriculture #CropDiversification #FoodSecurity #ICAR #NITIAayog #WheatIndustry #AgriculturalResearch #Farmers #Vision2047 #ILoveWheat #ISupportWheat 🌾
