Organised by Sem Barendse, Kaelin DeLong and Frank Kupper, this training program takes a reflective approach to science communication - examining not justย howย to communicate, butย why,ย with whom, andย from what position. Module 1 started with foundational explorations: ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ผ๐น๐ฒ(๐) ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ย - As boundaries between science and society blur, what does collaboration and co-creation actually look like? ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ปย - Beyond dissemination to all forms of connection and interaction between people around issues related to science and technology. ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐บ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐น๐ย - From deficit thinking to dialogue, participation, and co-creation approaches ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ย - When issues are urgent, uncertain and ambiguous, how do we engage meaningfully? Over the coming months, the program will move through: Module 1:ย Rethinking science communication โย Module 2:ย Strategic science communication & design thinkingย Module 3:ย The art of communicationย Module 4:ย Media, stories and 'the audience' By June, each participant will present a science communication product (eg. podcast, lecture, workshop, film, exhibition) developed through this reflective process. This program is made possible by funding from the Impact Board VU.
