WBHS Old Boy, Jono Broomhead (2018)- teed it up at the Mowbray golf course in the Western Province Amateur this past week against 140 of the top amateur men in the country. In the three round qualifying stroke-play ( top 32 qualify) tournament Jono finished two under par and in a tie for ninth place. En route to the final, Jono played some exceptional match-play golf defeating top South African amateurs including the sixth ranked and SA representative Jordan Duminy. Jono finally succumbed in the 36 hole final to South Africa’s top ranked amateur golfer, Martin Vorster. Not yet 21 Jono’s golfing stock is on the rise and this caps a memorable few weeks of golf for him. Shortly before he left for the Cape he won the Durban Country Club stroke-play tournament and is a five-time Strokeplay champion at DCC before his 21st birthday. A fine talent who remains humble and committed to achieving his goals- a fine Griffin- incepto ne desistam
