Following five years of dedicated leadership, Diederik Pen, President of WestJet Airlines and Chief Operating Officer of the WestJet Group, has announced plans to retire. A global search for his successor is underway and Diederik is actively involved in the search process and will be supporting a seamless transition. Timing for his retirement is anticipated for the first quarter of 2027, at the latest, dependent on onboarding his successor. Until that time, Diederik will stay fully in charge of overseeing the airline and leading our operations team. Since joining the company in 2021, Diederik has played a pivotal role in shaping our operational direction and success. Diederik has negotiated several high-impact contracts with our labour partners and has led major operational transitions and transformations, including the successful integration of Swoop and Sunwing Airlines into WestJet, delivering a more resilient, efficient, and competitive airline. More importantly, Diederick has helped foster our culture of care, collaboration and integrity. Diederik’s impact extends well beyond business results, he is a trusted mentor, an inspiring leader, and a strong advocate for WestJetters.
