I’m deeply honored to have been admitted as a Tax Partner at Deloitte. This milestone is both humbling and deeply meaningful. I’m filled with gratitude, for the opportunities I’ve had, the lessons I’ve learned, and the people who have supported me along the way. To the many, many mentors, clients, colleagues, and students who have guided, supported and cheered me on — thank you. A special mention to Daniel Jin Khee Ho, Hwee Chua Low, Rohan Solapurkar, Siok Peng O., Sook Peng Chai, Gek Teng Ng, Richard Mackender, Hooi Beng Tan, Hsien Yew Yap, Ngan Dang Mai Kim, Kelvin Yee, Chia Woon Tan, Kok Tong, Mei Pin Puah, Daryl Chia, Daniel Tow, Stanley Low Jun Xian, Poh-Sun Seow, Shawn Cho, Gordon Cheong, Wei Jie Tan, and many others. Each conversation, project, and experience has left a lasting mark. I’m especially grateful to Sze Ling Tan and Li Mei Liew — for the trust, the friendship, the many late night technical discussions, and the countless project opportunities over the years. And yes—our great dinners will continue! Congrats too to my batch mates, Siew Ying Lee, Niorn Yukolthong, Vorasa Palsingh, Vuthy Sreng, Melvin Heng, Yusuf Ismail Abdul Karim SE., CPA. And of course… a very heartfelt thank you to Prof Yee Loong, my tax professor back in my SMU days. I’ll never forget the evening more than a decade ago when I camped outside his classroom to ask if I should give up my scholarship to pursue a tax career. Without hesitation, he said, “Of course – follow your passion.” And he added, “Don’t compare. You’ll get there—as long as you work hard.” It felt especially apt to have lunch with him today, on my very first day as partner. He’s played such a pivotal role every step in my journey—at Deloitte, SMU School of Accountancy, and Singapore Chartered Tax Professionals (SCTP) — and as he prepares to retire this month, it felt emotional and full circle to hear him say, more than 10 years later after that fateful conversation, “Well done, sir.” I am very excited for the next chapter, and to more learning and growing together!
