There are moments as a mom when you pause—not because your child needs guidance, but because they’ve found their own voice. Today, I’m sharing a piece written by my daughter. In it, she reflects on identity, belonging, and the quiet pressure to conform—on how something as simple as the pronunciation of a name can carry the weight of culture, history, and self-worth. What moved me most is not just her insight, but her clarity: That fitting in is not the same as belonging. That identity is not something to be simplified for the comfort of others. That who we are is not negotiable. It is no longer about finding identity but interrogating it. As we celebrate International Women’s Day and honor the strength of women everywhere, I’m reminded that the next generation is already stepping forward—with courage, conviction, and a deep sense of self. To Mina: May you always stand firmly in who you are. May you never feel the need to shrink to be accepted. And may you continue to speak—not just for yourself, but for those still finding their voice. This is what empowerment looks like. Quiet, thoughtful, and unshakably strong.
