This is one of the most iconic pix from The Windrush Generation, and I've mentioned how the lil' girl, that look in her eyes, speaks to me. She's not looking at the camera, but the earnestness of her gaze into the distance embodies many a childhood and youthful sentiment of the moment I am sure. This also reminds me of how as a kind repost of the launch of Windrush Canada by Club Carib's president Leroy Clarke, PhD, OCT, he shared this bittersweet Windrush love letter, penned by his wife Sonia Clarke. The story captures the realities that little boys and girls aboard those ships and then planes would have faced back then. As Leroy states, **many members of the Windrush diaspora...have stories to tell that are both healing and educational. Here is a part of her story, "Against All Odds", published by York University.** [2023] Kudos and thanks on this award winning essay Ms. Sonia. Enjoy the read all: https://lnkd.in/gTUQ2Zrw And for those of you in the Durham area, roses to Club Carib who are celebrating their amazing 60th year anniversary upcoming on August 9th! #windrushgeneration #windrushdiaspora #windrushcanada #essaywriting #windrushnarratives #storytellers #healing #caribbeandiaspora #JamaicanCanadians #postwarBritain #academicwriting #awardwinning #familiaressay #personalaccount
