One of the most common misconceptions: “We’re not rotating continuously—or even a full 360°—so we don’t need a rotary union.” Unfortunately, that's often a costly assumption. As this recent incident demonstrates, the consequences can include millions of dollars in damage, months of downtime, and significant operational disruption. Training and procedures are important, but a better solution is to engineer the risk out of the system entirely. In this case, integrating a fluid rotary union into the fire suppression system would have allowed full 360° rotation and eliminated the risk associated with over-rotation and flooding the antenna base. In mission-critical systems, the best designs don't just improve performance—they eliminate risk. A rotary union does exactly that, enabling continuous rotation while eliminating hose twisting, reducing fatigue, and preventing over-rotation. https://lnkd.in/gzfwgSuV
