🎬 Students are empowered not just to consume media—but to shape it. 🎥 Webster Athens students this past week stepped into the world of actual media production during a visit to the ACS Athens (American Community Schools) Media Studio in Halandri, accompanied by the Communications Department Head, Assistant Professor Anthi Kalomiri. Students explored how storytelling, technology, and education intersect in practice. Hosted and guided by John Papadakis, Director of Media Productions at ACS Athens, they discovered how K12 students become active creators—developing audiovisual projects, podcasts, and multimedia content for both the local and global audiences of the school. The visit highlighted the importance of media literacy as a fundamental skill in today’s world, where communication, creativity, and critical thinking are more essential than ever. 💬 "Today, everyone is a media producer," said Papadakis. "Through audiovisual projects, podcast interviews with community stakeholders and global experts, and multimedia presentations, ACS students develop both technical skills and a voice within an increasingly media-driven society." 🎥 In the green room of the Media Studio, Webster Athens students observed Athanasios Palos-Papantonopoulos and Vana Alexopoulou coordinating a student-led project for a Model United Nations competition, offering a glimpse into collaborative, project-based learning in action. Lydia E. Skampavia, ACS Athens Global Alumni Outreach Coordinator and Webster Geneva Campus alumna, underscored the value of media literacy across academic and professional paths. A memorable highlight was the presence of Victoria Elmacioglu, an ACS Athens alumna and media executive, who emphasized how storytelling connects people across cultures, disciplines, and industries. 💬 “For Webster Athens students, the experience was more than a field trip—it was a window into the evolving role of media in education and society,” said Kalomiri. “As the boundaries between creator and audience continue to blur, such encounters highlight the importance of preparing the next generation not only to navigate media, but to shape it.” As highlighted during the visit, experiences like this go beyond the classroom—preparing students to actively participate in and shape the evolving media landscape. A sincere thank you to ACS Athens, the Media Studio team, and the school’s community professionals for sharing their expertise and valuable insights. #WebsterAthens #MediaStudies #ExperientialLearning #MediaProduction #MediaLiteracy #HigherEducation #InternationalEducation
