Automating the eBay inventory promotion process shouldn't force eBay businesses to sacrifice their profit margins. 📉 Historically, when a seller set up automated Priority Strategy or General Strategy campaigns based on category, price, or brand, the system automatically included every item that met the seller's pre-set criteria. This meant low-margin items were promoted alongside high-margin products, which often cut into the merchant’s overall profitability. eBay has recently added the Rule-Based Campaign Listing Exclusion feature to the Advertising dashboard, which fixes this issue by giving sellers much better control over their budgets. Merchants can now keep their automation running across their catalogs while excluding up to 10,000 specific item IDs per campaign. The feature enables sellers to keep broad automation rules to drive quick sales, while easily excluding low-margin items or specific underperforming product sizes and colors from multi-variation listings. If an item matches a seller’s automated rules but is on the exclusion list, the algorithm will no longer promote it. This update allows high-volume sellers to continue scaling their promotional efforts through automation and, at the same time, have precise control over their ad spend.
