What does “polished" even mean??? It is one of those words that sounds professional but means something very different depending on who is saying it. Joe Mackley from the The 93% Club raised something that a lot of candidates feel but rarely say out loud. When hiring managers describe their ideal candidate as "polished" what are they actually looking for? Confidence? Presentation? A certain accent? A certain background? Because for a lot of candidates, particularly those from working class or underrepresented backgrounds, "polished" can feel less like a skill requirement and more like a door that was never really open to begin with.
