Juneteenth, commemorates June 19, 1865: The day enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. For 161 years, Juneteenth has been a day of remembrance for the freedom that was delayed. It is also a celebration of the tenacity, resilience , and joy that flourished despite that delay. We take a moment in remembrance of this important moment in our Nation's history, as a reminder of a day when all Americans were able to know and experience true freedom.
