⚡ 40GW. That's how much battery storage Australia's grid operator says the country will need by 2050 — and they've put it in writing. Australia's Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has released its 2026 Integrated System Plan (ISP), setting out one of the most detailed national storage targets we've seen from any grid operator to date. → 35 GW — short and medium-duration storage needed for daily firming by 2050 → 5 GW — long-duration energy storage (LDES) required for seasonal reliability → ~40 GW total — the combined storage buildout AEMO says Australia needs → 2026 ISP — the planning document that now sets the trajectory for investment decisions What makes this notable is the split: AEMO is treating short/medium-duration and long-duration storage as distinct needs, with separate capacity targets. That's a signal for developers and investors — not just one market, but two parallel ones to build for. Australia's National Electricity Market is already one of the most active BESS procurement arenas globally. With this ISP, the long-term pipeline just got a hard number attached to it. At Wattilla, we're building the marketplace where BESS projects get bought and sold — from early-stage development to operational assets. If you're active in this market, we'd love to see you there. 🔗 wattilla.com 📄 Source: https://lnkd.in/e7ezPr74 #BESS #BatteryStorage #EnergyStorage #EnergyTransition #Australia #GridScale #Wattilla
