From early gas engine development to shaping our sustainable fuels and decarbonisation agenda, his work has had a lasting impact on the marine and energy industries. Innovation often starts quietly, with a simple question about what might work. For Mikael, that curiosity grew into a career that helped reshape how the marine industry thinks about fuel. He has always focused on what really matters: creating safe, reliable and scalable solutions that deliver real value for customers. In recent years, as Director, Sustainable Fuels and Decarbonisation, he has played an important role in helping Wärtsilä move from ambition to action. Through strategy, partnerships and practical thinking, he has supported customers in navigating the shift towards lower-emission operations. But beyond the technology, his story is also about people. 🤝 “The most valuable part of my career has always been the people. You can’t achieve much alone. It is about trusted colleagues, open collaboration and giving others the space to shine,” says Mikael.
